We're delighted to have your child joining us for Cadet Week 2026 — a week of sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, rowing, raft building, and powerboating on the Tay. The week is run by Wormit Boating Club with qualified instructors and safety cover throughout.

Please read these instructions carefully before the week begins.

Payment is by BACS bank transfer. Please include your child's full name as the payment reference so we can match your payment to their place.

What's Provided

The club will provide the following for all participants:

Buoyancy aids (range of sizes available)
A branded sports top for each participant
A hat for each participant
All watercraft and on-water equipment
Qualified instructor supervision throughout
Safety boat cover at all times on the water
Additional snacks during the day
Wetsuits are not provided by the club. Please see the kit list below — a wetsuit is essential kit for Cadet Week. The water and weather in Scotland can be cold even in July.

Label Everything

Please put your child's name on every item of clothing and equipment. Lost property will be kept at the club but we can only reunite items that are labelled.

Branded Sports Top Size

The club will provide a branded sports top and hat for each participant. Size is captured in the consent form — please select the correct size for your child before submitting.

To avoid congestion at drop-off and pick-up, please park on Riverside Road or at Wormit Primary School and walk down to the club.

  • Drop-off: From 8:30am for a 9:00am start. Please do not arrive before 8:30am as instructors will be setting up.
  • Pick-up: By 5:30pm. If you are running late, please contact us in advance.
  • Site access during Cadet Week is restricted to participants, instructors, club staff, and parents.

Activities

The programme is weather and tide dependent and will be confirmed closer to the time. Activities across the week will include:

Dinghy Sailing

Tera dinghies on the Tay — rigging, steering, tacking. All abilities.

SUP

Stand-up paddleboarding for balance, fun, and a splash of competition.

Rowing

Traditional skur rowing — a classic Tay tradition.

Raft Building

Team engineering challenge — design, build, and float.

Powerboating

Experience safety boat handling on the water.

RNLI & Coastguard

Visits from the RNLI and HM Coastguard during the week.

Coastal Sculling

A visit from Scottish Rowing's Coastal Sculling squad.

Broughty Ferry

A trip to Broughty Ferry on Thursday (tide permitting).

Note: A detailed daily timetable will be shared with families before the start of the week. The programme is weather and tide dependent — we will always find something safe and enjoyable to do.

Welfare Information

If you have not already completed a registration form, please ensure we have details of the following before the week begins:

  • Any allergies (food or otherwise)
  • Any medical conditions or additional needs
  • Any medication your child carries or requires during the day
  • Any known triggers we should be aware of
  • Photo consent — please confirm whether you are happy for your child to appear in photographs taken during the week for club use
  • Your child's branded sports top size

Important

We have qualified first aiders on site throughout the week. If your child requires medication during the day (e.g. an inhaler or EpiPen), please ensure it is clearly labelled and handed to the lead instructor on the first morning.

If your child becomes unwell during the week, we will contact you immediately using the emergency number you have provided. Please ensure your contact details are up to date.

Before You Go

  • Please apply suncream before drop-off — this makes the morning routine much smoother for everyone.
  • The programme is weather dependent. We will always find something safe and enjoyable to do, but activities may change day to day.
  • The site remains open to the public during Cadet Week, including local residents — please be aware of this when dropping off and picking up.
  • A detailed daily timetable will be shared with families before the start of the week.
  • If you have any questions at all — before, during, or after the week — please don't hesitate to get in touch.
